Mr. Overman is a project consultant for the design and construction of a $1 billion terminal redevelopment and expansion at the King Khalid International Airport (KKIA).

Terminal 3 and Terminal 4 (T3 and T4) will become a one-roof building with a large central processor area. Three attached concourses will provide access to aircraft parked in both contact and remote stands. The terminals’ gross floor area is approximately 3.12 million square feet and is comprised of six levels. Project elements under this contract include the design and construction of a new terminal processor; terminal concourses; airside aprons; aircraft stands and taxi lanes; remodeling, renewal, refurbishment, restoration, and integration of the existing terminals; ticketing, check-in, and boarding, including passenger boarding bridges; transferring and arriving, security, passport control, and customs; retail concessions; airside hotel; airline lounges; restrooms; prayer rooms; and seating areas. All airside and landside facilities, such as departure and arrival curbs, aircraft contact stands, aircraft remote stands, airside service roads, and taxi lanes to safely handle vehicles and pedestrians on the landside, and aircraft and service traffic on the airside, are also included to ensure a fully-functional, maintainable, and ultramodern terminal facility.

The airside infrastructure will be updated to provide the necessary support and services as a result of the expansion project. The new terminals’ designs will meet operational needs in accordance with SBC, UABE, NFPA, IATA, ICAO, and other international regulations and local practices.

Creating a “world-class experience” for passengers is a driving force behind the creation of the state-of-the-art airport and passenger terminal complex. In addition, the project must fully reflect the international status of the capital city of Riyadh, solve current capacity issues, and support the airport’s efforts to progress into a modern, commercially-driven facility in order to compete with other airports in the wider Middle Eastern region.
